Each one of these unique clutch bags is up-cycled from a vintage Jacquard silk obi belt, sourced in Kyoto, and handcrafted in an haute couture atelier in Reims, France. One of a limited edition collection of five numbered pieces, this design features a bold gold design with a focal point of diamond shaped (hanabishi) flowers and butterflies, and has black silk lining.
The hanabishi flower was widely used to decorate the kimonos and furniture of noble families. The butterfly represents eternity, in fact a Japanese belief is that the souls of the dead take the form of a butterfly to make their journey to the next life. Inspired by the metamorphosis of butterflies from caterpillars, they are also a symbol for girls entering womanhood and often feature in coming of age ceremonies.
Every clutch comes with a removable gold chain, fastened inside the pouch, to enable it to be worn as a shoulder bag. There is also a pocket inside for mobile phone storage. This bag is delivered in a Paulownia wood case, traditionally used in Japan to store obi and kimono.
Measures 3 x 26 x 16 cm – ideal for day or evening use.
