Each one of these unique clutch bags is up-cycled from a vintage Jacquard silk obi belt, sourced in Kyoto, and handcrafted in an haute couture atelier in Reims, France. One of a limited edition collection of five numbered pieces, this design features a traditional hexagonal motif on regal gold, with accents of on-trend lilac, acid green, and golden poppy, with a white Chrysanthemum motif, and orange silk lining.
The hexagonal ‘kikko’ motif, inspired by the pattern on the shell of a tortoise, represents longevity and good fortune. The hexagon also features in traditional samurai armour design. Chrysanthemums, or ‘kiku’, are also a symbol of longevity and regal beauty. Kiku feature on the seal of the Emperor and members of the Imperial family, and also signify the season of autumn.
Every clutch comes with a removable gold chain, fastened inside the pouch, to enable it to be worn as a shoulder bag. There is also a pocket inside for mobile phone storage. This bag is delivered in a Paulownia wood case, traditionally used in Japan to store obi and kimono.
